Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works but with issues poor tech support available I bought this scanner with high hopes after reading many positive reviews. Be sure to read the negative reviews and take to heart. When it works, it does a decent job at a reasonable price, but with the problems detailed below, it is a much longer process than it should be. These same issues seem to be on the more expensive models as well. Low Reviewers were correct: Flimsy film holders and only two types. Nothing for 110 or 126 size. Film holder can easily scratch the platen from multiple uses. I had read there were issues using it with a MAC, but that patches were available that fix the issues. Unfortunately that does not seem to be the case. On a MAC it stops scanning if the cursor is not kept active over the progress bar. If you leave the progress bar page for any reason the scan stops. So every few seconds you must reactivate the progress bar to keep it scanning. You cannot just set it to scan and walk away to return to a finished scan. I installed the software on a PC and it rarely stops while viewing working on other pages but if you try to move the progress bar or preview pane, you get a beep from Windows that you can't do that while the scan is in progress. Therefore you cannot view what is behind those popups to work on files they obscure. Also, every few scans it fails to detect the second strip if you have two inserted. This also happens occasionally on the MAC as well. It scans faster on the PC but the scans seem grainier in appearance regardless of settings. I viewed the scans on MAC by transferring by jump drive and they appear grainier there too so not the monitor settings for the PC. Very little adjustment light or dark regardless of the settings you choose. Either too light or too dark. Both PC and MAC. The settings don't seem to work like they should. If you deselect certain pictures in a strip it still scans them. If you try to cancel a scan everything locks up. I contacted tech support by email and someone tried to help me. Basically told to uninstall the software and reinstall from the website not the CD and update everything. Worked great for about a day and then started stopping mid scan all over again. I did the uninstall/reinstall again without success. The support person finally told me they didn't know anything else to try but to call Epson - both US and CA numbers available were long distance. No toll free number to call for help. Very disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to Use I have had the V600 about 1 month. It was easy to set up and use. Quality of the results are very good. It would be nice to do more than 4 slides at a time. Instructions could be improved a lot - it would take a short time for Epson to improve them and and put the revised manual online. This is the single most requested feature from other reviewers. Not much effort required by Epson to do this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Epson Perfection V600 was great right out of the box. The software was easy to install and I was scanning my slides within minutes. With a little experimentation I found the settings for that worked for me and in short order I was creating high quality digital images. The software provides options for adjustments to the image; brightness, contrast, colour balance, colour restoration, and backlight correction. The dust removal settings work well, but it still pays to be diligent about cleaning the slides as you go for the best result. It takes some time to clean, preview, make adjustments and make the final scan, the results are high quality. Regular document scanning also works well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Scanner For 120 Film I have done a lot of photography using 120 slide film in a Bronica SQ. Have used this scanner exclusively for the purpose of scanning these images into digital form. Have done about 60 of them at 4800 dpi and the results are amazing. Great scanner for this purpose at this price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great features Bought the V600 recently and it has turned out to be a good replacement for my old EPSON scanner. There are great features for editing old negatives and slides, but the software really needs an update. I've had problems with scanning slides in thumbnail mode. Better scanning software would be appreciated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Epson V600 Scanner I am very satisfied with the quality of the scanner and am very pleased with the variety of negative formats the holder will take and appreciate being able to scan 4 slides at once. I have tried other slide scanners in the past and most only take one slide at a time and are also quite awkward to place the slides. I am however disappointed with the software interface. It is not user friendly and does not provide adequate instructions for the use of the software. Given the quality of the scanner, I would strongly recommend Epson consider upgrading the software interface.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Epson V600 Scanner I bought this two weeks ago and have already scanned in 500 photos. On the whole it is working well. There are times when the software does not recognize two 4 x 6 pictures separated by the proper amount of space. I am waiting trying it to scan in slides as that is important to me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good I bought this scanner a month ago specifically to scan very old 35mm slides. It works well on my MacBook Pro but I did have to call the technical help desk to scan slides. It’s a bit fussy at first - you have to tell it where to scan each slide (it doesn’t find the 4 slides itself). Once set up it’s easy to use. Some old slides that weren’t great quality can be edited by the scanner to significantly improved them - just time consuming but end result is worth it. The on-line manual is the old version of the scanning software and the #2 new software version is quite different - that’s why I had to contact the help desk. Even the technician said there isn’t an updated manual available yet.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great yet not so great! Purchased to scan pictures to computer. Easy to use, however while scanning it would arbitrarily scan in a different format/size. Technical support not helpful in solving issue. Very disappointed in this aspect, otherwise not a bad product when it works properly
