Rated 5 out of 5 by from fast and fairly easy To make it better l think there should be some simple 'paint brush' app and a better red eye tool. You don't want users to go looking for 3rd party tools. Also it struggles with some older 'odd' size photos and I had to sometimes move it 4 times to get a correct scan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding results from digitizing 35mm colour slides I purchased this scanner about a month ago, after extensive research into methods and equipment to be used for digitizing about one thousand 35 mm color slides dating from the early 1960s. Having completed 700 successful scans, which required between 1 and 5 minutes per slide (including post processing), I am delighted with the results. I have attached 4 examples to illustrate the results, all taken with the simplest fully automatic setting at 400 dpi, with dust removal and color restoration activated. I did several trials in the Professional Mode with Digital ICE technology activated but, since my slides had been carefully stored and were minimally scratched and dusty, the results did not justify the added time required. Minimal-post processing, using clone-and-heal methods to remove defects, before adding a title to the scan, proved to be very effective. I am a retired engineering professor (Imperial College of Science and Technology, London, UK and University of Toronto, Canada) and independent mining and civil engineering consultant, and my work has taken to me in projects in 35 countries around the world. I have taken thousands of photographs on these projects. Some of the most difficult were in the early 1960s, with abysmal lighting and slow film speeds. One example, illustrated in the first three attached photographs, involved a research project on the strength of coal pillars in underground mines, initiated after the collapse of a coal mine in South Africa in 1960. Photographs in an underground coal mine are incredibly difficult and the digital images attached exceeded all my expectations when I set out to scan these slides. With minimal post processing, these results approach the quality that I would expect from today's digital cameras. The 4th attached slide is another good example of photography in an underground metal mine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Much more than a Scanner!!! Very gratifying product to use. The nostalgic immersion alone is worth the price. It operates flawlessly, the scanned resolution is more than adequate, especially for a small screen (17") display, and not bad on a 65 inch either. The major benefit is finally being able to easily manipulate, organize and display my photo slides, and provide excellent copies to my adult children and grand children of their parents childhood. It has also engendered intense conversations between my wife and I about events, dates, and locations, which has allowed us to relive some great family adventures. The scanner generated numbering system is inadequate which requires some creative solutions. I also found that the better organized the original slides are, the easier and faster the process advances. Dust removal from the scanned slides takes a lot of time, and processing only 4 slides each pass makes for many days work if you have a large number to scan. A slide "Lightbox" is invaluable. But it is SO worth it!!! I am so happy to have the Epson Perfection v600 Scanner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does exactly what I hoped it would. Great resolution. The bundled Windows software is easy to make use of for changing the scan quality as needed and enhancing the scans that require it. The Linux software has fewer options. My old negatives with flaw marks are restored quite well. Others have made mention of the fragility of the negative holders and I would agree with that assessment. I have not had this for long, so let's hope for a good run without mechanical issues. Thank you Epson.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Buggy I've used this for photos 3 times. The second time I had to push the scan button multiple times before the scanner connected to my computer and this occurred numerous times for numerous scan attempts. Also, I can place up to 3 photos in the scanner and have them recognized as 3 different photos- but about half the time that it does that, it extends one or more of the photos into white or into a photo below- there doesn't seem to be any reason why it works properly some times and not others- even the same photos will sometimes work and sometimes not. When it does work it works well. But it's too buggy for the price I paid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great on my Mac I do a lot of scanning in my hobby of restoring old sheet music to like new condition. For years, I've used a competitor's scanner, which finally started giving me grief. I read the reviews on this scanner and decided that this would be my replacement. This scanner feels like such a professional scanner with nice little features, from the notch in the hinge that holds the lid up while you adjust your document to the quick startup and quiet operation. As is often the case, the scanning software provided seems to be a Windows program adapted to a Mac, so it detracts from the whole professional feel. However, VueScan works great with this scanner. For that reason, I had to only rate this scanner as good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An excellent scanner I had been considering the Epson Perfection V600 scanner for quite some time because of its ability to scan slides and film negatives. It has not disappointed as it performs these tasks extremely well. The scan quality is excellent. It really is a high quality option for anyone looking for a quality scanner. My only disappointment is with the software design. It is functional but it has the look and feel of software that has not been updated for more than a decade. Particularly with the newest Mac OS that requires 64 bit software, some of the included apps are falling behind. But, aside from that, I would definitely recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy. I am not the greatest with technology so before I bought a scanner I did a lot of research. I ended up buying the Epson Perfection V600 and it has been great. It scans the pictures with little effort and great qualify.
