Why isn't the fluorescent scanning lamp on?

• The scanner has a power saving function (sleep mode); press the Start button to wake the scanner. Hotplug the USB or Firewire cable or power cable, then plug it back in. Make sure the power cord is connected to the scanner and plugged into a power outlet.
