Rated 5 out of 5 by from IT WORKS!!! This is my third scanner from Epson. The 200-W did not work after a few months. I am hopeful that this newer model will last longer. I keep buying these scanners because when they work, they are phenomenal. As a college professor, I scan a lot! I am very hopeful!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Frustrated I have only had this two days and I have had to remove the entire software from the desktop and reinstall it so I was able to get it to work the next time I needed. Now is the second time uninstalling and having to reinstall again in order for it to work.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Perfect size but not plug and play This scanner was purchased for portability and decent reviews. It's NOT plug and play. I've spent an hour trying to connect the system via wifi and it still does not work as advertised. There is a one touch button that should scan directly to your computer, but this does not work if you are operating via wifi. You have to open up various applications to get a scan. If I can't get this to work within the next 30 minutes, I'm returning it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from These scanners just stop working This was purchased just one year ago and it just stops working. Can't find any help solutions to fix it. It has happened to the ES-300W and to the ES-60W!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Convenient low volume portable scanner but... Purchased this because I needed a scanner whilst on a trip (I had hundreds of documents to scan to execute a will). I needed one with an ADF and duplex and this was at the right price point. All-in-all it's packed full of features (battery, duplex, adf, etc), so it's a decent enough scanner - it just wasn't the right scanner for the job that I needed it for. Read on for more details First, and most frustrating is the ADF - the main reason I bought it for is a pain. You have to push the paper down with a tiny bit of force to get the scanner see the paper, if you do it wrong and press the scan button, the scanner thinks it's got a paper jam and you have to open/shut the jam-clearing lid to clear the status. ARGH! My other scanner, just drop the paper in and it feeds it. Second, if you don't put the paper in perfectly (and I do mean just perfectly) the page feeds on a slant, which means it scans on a slant. The software tries to rotate-and-crop but it doesn't do a great job and I constantly have dark black lines on the edges that I have to crop out after. I don't have this problem with my other scanner - it auto-levels the page before feeding it and, once it's level, it pulls it in all the way. Same thing with narrow receipts - the number of receipts that were chewed up by this scanner, on their first (or second) try, was really annoying. As a result, I found that I could not use the one-button-scan-and-save-directly-to-disk feature because I could not rely on the scans to come out reliably (because of feeding issues). So most scans require some level of manual adjustment. I also spent a lot of time deleting pages and rescanning them. Next is Epson SmartScan, which has a multi-step scan process. Feed paper, click "scan" (one/two sided), crop (to remove black bordeer on top and right of page), click "next", click "save" (or save to google drive), enter filename (which defaults to "Document_YYYYMMDD_000x"). Choosing that last "save" is an unnecessary step - it should be auto-selected in a profile. My other scanner lets me pick a profile, add a completely custom naming format (this feature is VERY limited in SmartScan - useless for me) for all scans (in the profile) and then I just click "scan" and it does the rest - it names it, puts it into the target directory and rotates/crops the black borders out. The user experience, by comparison, is night-and-day. So when using this scanner, I had to crop and/or rotate 75% of the pages, set a custom name (I use YYYY-MM-DD - <filename>.ext - this is not possible with the Epson software) which makes it much more sortable/searchable than having the document type first (because the date matters more than the type of content). So for every scan, I go through this same process which costs me a lot of productivity. I had a big job to do and I spent more time dealing with efficiency issues in this product's scanning workflow than I did actually scanning - which is completely different to how I can use my other scanner (load, press scan, load, press scan, etc). And lastly, but this is a small gripe, the port is a USB-3 port. USB3 is great for transfer speeds but I've switched all of my other devices over to USB-C, so this is just one more cable that I'll need to take with me if I take this anywhere. So in summary, if you need a portable scanner to scan the odd document/receipt, then this will probably be fine for you. Though I question the value of a scanner in that situation because there are many document scanning apps for your phone that will do the same thing (though less easily). But if you need to take it somewhere to scan a bunch of documents/receipts/etc at a time, this is not the right scanner for the task.
